Required documents

When a couple reports their marriage in Korea first
  • 1Affidavit of Eligibility for Marriage (original copy) of the foreign spouse.
  • 2Korean translation of the Affidavit of Eligibility for Marriage (must include the translator’s personal information and signature).
  • 3Documentary proof of the spouse’s nationality (passport).
  • 4Marriage registration form. Download the form
  • 5Personal IDs (original copies) of the two married persons.
  • 6Seal (must contain the full name) or signature (must be entered on the marriage registration form) of the two married persons.
  • 7The names of two witnesses, and their resident registration numbers, addresses and seals (must contain the full name) or signatures (must be entered on the marriage registration form).
When a couple reports their marriage in an overseas country first
  • 1Certificate of marriage (original copy) issued by the government agency of the country where the marriage took place.
  • 2Korean translation of the marriage certificate (must include the translator’s personal information and signature).
  • 3Documentary proof of the spouse’s nationality (passport).
  • 4Marriage registration form.
  • 5Personal ID (original copy) of the person reporting the marriage.
  • 6Seal (must contain the full name) or signature (must be entered on the marriage registration form) of the person registering the marriage.
  • 7You must report the marriage in Korea within 3 months of registering the marriage in an overseas country.

All certificates submitted as attached documents must be originals. The original copies will not be returned.

When necessary, the civil servant may ask you to submit additional documents along with the registration form.
