Regional Characteristics

A commercial city centered around the Ikebukuro Station department store and Sunshine City, the tallest multifunctional urban facility in Japan.

A city of culture and art, and home to the Tokyo Metropolitan Theater, the Ancient Orient Museum, and three major art galleries.

Department stores, finance and business form the core businesses of the city, while small and medium-size companies form the backbone of the city’s Chamber of Commerce. The city also promotes the growth of traditional handicrafts such as hand-drawn turtles.
